Everyone Loves a Prom! Creating a special day for some special people.

In January 2024, Emma Amadon, a senior at Lyndon Institute, interned at Cedar Lane, an NKHS Intellectual Developmental Disability Service (IDDS) residential home for four wonderful ladies.

"I really connected with the residents, way more than I thought I would, and I wanted to do something special for them," shared Emma. "As a senior at LI, we have our prom coming up in May, and I thought it would be fun to host a prom for these ladies and others. Everyone should have a prom."

Emma got to work. After getting approval from NKHS and her school, Lyndon Institute, Emma began contacting community members to pull all the pieces together to make this a special day for those in some of the NKHS residential homes and others.

"Emma's level of care for our individuals showed in her thoughtfulness and care during her internship at Cedar Lane, especially by creating this event. Laurie Young, Cedar Lane Manager remarked, "We've never done anything like this, and the residents were so happy."

As Emma prepares to graduate, she reflects on how her time at Cedar Lane has profoundly shaped her future career path. She envisions a future where she can once again be a part of the lives of the ladies at Cedar Lane, a testament to the lasting impact of this event.

NKHS extends a heartfelt Thank You to Lyndon Institute for their warm hospitality, Paul Scavitto for his generous donation of energetic and stellar DJ services, Central Mane Salon and Spa in St. Johnsbury for their dedicated time (the ladies were thrilled with their new hairstyles), the bakers who prepared delicious treats for the event including Bentley's Bakery in Danville, HOPE for the beautiful prom dresses, and of course, Emma for her brilliant idea that blossomed into a joyous and unforgettable event for all!
